DSA421 Sounds interesting?! – Why intercultural competence is the key to effective understanding – online

There’s more to communication than speaking a common language – it’s about having the right skills, knowledge and attitudes to able to interact in an effective, appropriate manner. And in today’s globalised world intercultural competence is considered one of the keys to success.
This workshop will be held online and comprise two parts, each lasting two hours. You will have an opportunity to try out some of the ideas from Part I before the second part of the workshop.
In Part I we’ll be looking at which skills are key and how they can be practised, as well as how knowledge can be activated to help students become more aware of other cultures. In Part II the focus will be on helping students to develop the right attitudes so as to become more open and able to interact more effectively.
Both sessions will provide opportunities for discussion, practical tips and a variety of materials – including short films, video clips and other resources – to raise students’ awareness, so they don’t stand out for the wrong reasons.
